Queen's Baton Relay Event

Venue: Queen's Park
The Queen's Baton makes an epic journey across the Commonwealth visiting all 72 nations and territories and will be coming to Loughborough on the afternoon of Monday July 11, 2022. Residents in Charnwood are being invited to watch the Baton travel through Loughborough and show their support for the Commonwealth Games.
There will be a number of opportunities to see the Baton being carried on foot including at Loughborough University campus, Queen's Park and Market Place.
Celebration event
To celebrate the Baton coming to Loughborough, there will be a range of activities and entertainment taking place in Market Place and Queen's Park between 12-3pm on Monday July 11.
Queen's Park
There will be free sports activities and children's games in Queen's Park between 12-3pm as well as live music in the bandstand.
Market Place
The main stage and big screen will come alive at 1pm with live music and entertainment. There will also be free children's arts and craft activities and face painting taking place during the afternoon.
A number of market stalls and children's fairground rides will also be in the Market Place to showcase Loughborough's Markets and Fair Royal Charter which celebrated its 800th anniversary last year.
Stage running order
- 1.00pm - 'Loughborough Through The Decades' Music, memories and images of Loughborough from the 1950s to the present day. Join your host Lez-Cope Newman and singer Sarah Clarke as we look back over the decades of the Queen's reign as we build up to the arrival of the Baton.
- 1.55pm - Official Welcome from Lead Member for Loughborough, Cllr Jenny Bokor
- 2.00pm - Community Heroes - hear from Charnwood Borough Council's Community Heroes
- 2.05pm - Arrival of the Queen's Baton Relay
- 2.15pm - Baton Relay leaves followed by sing-a-long
- 2.25pm - New Orleans Hotshots Jazz Band
- 3.00pm - Close
There will also be free children's activities, giveaways and some surprises.
Please note that the above times are approximate and dependent on the schedule of the Queen's Baton Relay as it travels across the East Midlands, people are advised to check the Council's Twitter for live updates of the relay on the day.
